While The Doctor’s Chocolate isn’t necessarily a diet in itself, it does have a great deal of purported benefits, one of which is weight loss. The Doctor’s Chocolate promises that it is “chocolate that’s good for you,” helping reduce your sugar intake and curbing those cravings for high-calorie chocolates.

What’s in it?

The main ingredient in The Doctor’s Chocolate is unprocessed Dark Chocolate (including Chocolate liquor, sugar, cocoa butter, soya lecithin, & vanilla extract), proven to have the most benefits for your health. The Doctor’s Chocolate also contains fig paste, cocoa powder, xylitol, water, raspberry juice, natural raspberry flavor, & L-theanine natural flavors.

How does it work?

The doctor – Doctor Keith Scott-Mumby, MD – claims that stress is a culprit for a number of health-related issues and easing your cravings in a healthy way decreases the amount of stress in your life, thus leading to weight loss. In effect, The Doctor’s Chocolate is allegedly the only healthy way to eat chocolate, since processed chocolate supposedly rids chocolate of all of the positive characteristics that can contribute to a number of health benefits, only one of which is weight loss.

Who does it work for?

There is an extremely lengthy section on The Doctor’s Chocolate website discussing the “science” behind this product, focusing on the chemical composition of chocolate and the ways that unprocessed chocolate can benefit your health. In addition, there are a number of testimonials on the website. However, the testimonials run the gamut of physical ailments, from insomnia, shingles, and stress to weight loss and appetite suppression. This website appears to champion the idea that The Doctor’s Chocolate can cure just about any ailment.

Are there possible side effects?

As with any “sugar alcohol,” xylitol can cause diarrhea if consumed in large quantities. In addition, The Doctor’s Chocolate has not been approved by the FDA, so it’s difficult to determine how many of the claims are legitimate.

Are there any “bonus” features?

The Doctor’s Chocolate is currently offering free shipping if you order 2 or more items, with no limit to the number of items you can order to cash in on the deal. However, one bag of The Doctor’s Chocolate is a bit pricey at $49.95 each (for a bag of 65 pieces of chocolate).

Although The Doctor’s Chocolate may be the healthiest version of chocolate out there, we have our doubts as to its abilities to help you lose weight. It may indeed have health benefits, but we are skeptical that it can make good on all the promises the website suggests. If you feel you need a healthy replacement for your chocolate cravings, The Doctor’s Chocolate may be a good option for you, but make sure you continue to exercise and eat a balanced diet since this product alone is not likely to help you lose weight.
